In 1823, explorer John Oxley explored the area of ??Moreton Bay, he discovered the Brisbane River ascended about twenty kilometers to the present city of Goodna. In 1824, the prison administration decided to set up a penal colony at Redcliffe. But without an adequate supply of water in the region, after only one year, the colony was moved south from Redcliffe to North Quay on the Brisbane River, now part of downtown Brisbane. The first European settlers moved into the region in 1838. German missionaries settled at Zions Hill, Nundah, in 1837, five years before Brisbane was officially declared colonisation2 area. They received the property of 260 hectares of land they began their value and which became the German Station3. Other settlers followed during the next five years and at the end of 1840 the explorer Robert Dixon began to draw initial plans to occupy the town4. Finally, in 1842, the area was officially declared open for free settlement, while the penal colony was closed. Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony of New South Wales 10 December 1859 with Brisbane as its capital, although the city official (city) is not created until 1902. Over twenty small municipalities and counties were reunited in 1925 to form the present city of Brisbane5, 6. The windmill Wickham Park and the old general store are the two oldest buildings in the city. Both were built by convicts in 1828. Originally, the windmill used to grind grain and served as a punishment for prisoners who were grinding grain in their own strength. Thereafter, and few people know, that's where the first tests were made of television signals from the southern hemisphere in April 1934. These tests continued until the Second World War. The old general store served initially in part to grain storage, and then served as a hotel to accommodate new immigrants before being used for storage of archives. Built with tufa cliffs nearby Kangaroo Point Cliffs and sandstone from a quarry near the present racecourse Albion Park, it now hosts the Royal Society of History of Brisbane. It houses a museum and can be rented for small réceptions7, 8.9. During the Second World War, American troops stationed in the city and it became the headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur, the commander of allied forces in the Pacific Southwest, which set up his headquarters in the current Central and McArthur T & G Building10. About a million American soldiers transitèrent by Australie11. In 1942, a stern hanging took place in Brisbane between Americans and Australians, he made a death and several blessés12. Located about 950 km north of Sydney on the Brisbane River, it extends on a plain bounded by hills wet, limited by Moreton Bay and the foothills of the Great Dividing Range. A few miles from downtown, Mt Coot-tha is home to a viewing platform, a planetarium and botanical gardens. The Brisbane site is called "Mian-Jin" by the aborigines Turrbal, which means "The place pointed" 1. Australia's third largest city in terms of population, it has 2 million inhabitants in the light of its periphery (Greater Brisbane). The city is named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825. Founded in 1824 at Redcliffe, 28 kilometers from downtown today, the Brisbane penal settlement was later moved upstream in a loop of the Brisbane River. The first free settlers could move to Brisbane in 1842, shortly after the closure of the prison. In 1859, the division of northern New South Wales gave rise to the creation of Queensland, Brisbane, which became the capital. The city played an important role for the Allied forces during World War II and served as headquarters for General Douglas MacArthur, who commanded Allied forces in the south-west Pacific. More recently Brisbane hosted the Commonwealth Games 1982, World Expo '88, and the Goodwill Games in 2001. Brisbane's economy is based on the petrochemical, metallurgical, food and mechanical. Its port is the export of natural resources of the State (coal, silver, lead, zinc).
